e-ALEX: An Innovative Model for Endoscopic Adenoidectomy Training
The e-ALEX is an innovative model designed for training in endoscopic adenoidectomy, enabling the use of plasma ablation (Coblation®).
Its main differentiator is the use of bovine thymus tissue (provided by the user) to simulate adenoid tissue. Thymus tissue has properties similar to adenoid tissue when subjected to Coblation, which is why the e-ALEX offers such a high level of realism.
The thymus is inserted into the model at the anatomical location of the adenoid by the user. After the procedure is performed, the remaining thymus can simply be replaced with a new sample. This allows the model to be reused repeatedly, making it ideal for training centers.
The e-ALEX was designed to accurately replicate the anatomical and technical conditions of the procedure. Its design allows for easy replacement of the thymus tissue and facilitates cleaning.
e-ALEX Highlights
Supports two endoscopic approaches:
• 30° endoscope through the nose and probe through the mouth
• 70° endoscope and probe through the mouth
Enhanced realism:
• Use of bovine thymus tissue (provided by the user) to simulate the adenoid
• The soft palate is flexible, just like in a real patient
• Realistic mouth opening, requiring the use of a mouth gag
Reusable model:
• Multiple training sessions possible by replacing the thymus tissue
• Easy to clean while preserving the main structure
Complementary training:
• Also allows for intracapsular tonsillectomy training with plasma ablation (Coblation®), by attaching thymus tissue to the tonsil area
